Dr Jovan Jovičić (1926 – 2013) jedan je od najistaknutijih srpskih muzičkih umetnika dvadesetog veka. Uz posvećeni i plodni rad na polju utemeljivanja i razvoja gitarističke umetnosti u Srbiji kao i u celoj tadašnjoj Jugoslaviji, Jovičić je ostvario sjajnu internacionalnu karijeru, nastupajući u najprestižnijim koncertnim dvoranama širom sveta, izuzetno je značajan i njegov rad na polju muzičke pedagogije, a paralelno sa bavljenjem umetnošću, profesor dr Jovan Jovičić ostvario je i uspešnu univerzitetsku karijeru, kao profesor fizike na Beogradskom univerzitetu.
Ovaj eminentni muzičar jedan je iz plejade sjajnih srpskih muzičara koji su pedesetih godina prošlog veka dali izuzetan doprinos unapređenju muzičkog života u Srbiji i u nekadašnjoj SFRJ. Delujući istovremeno sa pijanistom Dušanom Trbojevićem, operskim solistom Miroslavom Čangalovićem, pijanistkinjom i čembalistkinjom Oliverom Đurđević, dirigentom Dušanom Skovranom, i drugim našim vrsnim muzičarima ove generacije, Jovan Jovičić je dao izuzetan doprinos podizanju ukupnog nivoa našeg muzičkog stvaralaštva. On je srpsku i jugoslovensku muzičku javnost najpre upoznao sa muzikom za klasičnu gitaru, a potom je svojim solističkim i pedagoškim delovanjem ovaj instrument doveo do pune afirmacije, svojim trujumfalnim koncertima i turnejama zasluženo zadobivši renome jednog od najboljih svetskih virtuoza na klasičnoj gitari svoje generacije.
Od neprocenjive važnosti je Jovičićev rad na afirmisanju i popularizaciji klasične gitare, započevši da uči ovaj instrument kao samouk, ostvario je izuzetan izvođački nivo, tako da je krajem četvrte decenije prošlog veka počeo da snima i da nastupa na samostalnim koncertima. Pobede na prestižnim takmičenjima – na Međunarodnom takmičemnju muzičke omladine u Beogradu i na Međunardonom gitarističkom konkursu u Moskvi otvorili su mu vrata velike internacionalne afirmacije. Izuzetno je značajno i njegovo usavršavanje kod najvećeg gitariste dvadesetog veka, Andresa Segovije u Akademiji Kiđiana u Italiji, gde se naš gitarista usavršavao tokom četiri godine.
Uz koncertne turneje i gostovanja širom sveta, tokom kojih je nastupao širom Evrope, u bivšem SSSR, SAD, Kubi, do zemalja Azije i Dalekog istoka, Jovan Jovičić je neumorno koncertirao i u domovini, podjednako posvećujući pažnju nastupima u najprestižnijim dvoranama, kao i nastupima u malim mestima, u školama i u seoskim domovima kulture, privlačeći novu publiku i šireći krug poklonika muzike za gitaru. Jovičić je uporedo i snimio veliki broj gramofonskih ploča u Jugoslaviji, u SSSR-u, u Sjedinjenim Državama i u Španiji, a ostvario je i veliki broj snimaka za radio stanice i TV studija kako u zemlji tako i u inostanstvu. Uz koncertno delovanje, Jovičić je takođe bio i plodan kompozitor, koji je prevashodno bio posvećen muzici za gitaru – napisao je veliki broj kompozicija, od virtuoznih kompozicija, solističkih komada, etida do svita i raspodija na folklorne teme. Ove kompozicije su snimane, izvođene i štampane u zemlji kao i u inostranstvu – u Holandiji, Rusiji, Ukrajini. Jovičić je takođe pisao i muziku za brojne pozorišne predstave, radio drame i filmove, a ove kompozicije donele su mu i više važnih međunarodnih priznanja – muzika za radio dramu „Ptice“ dobila je nagradu „Pri Italije“.

Jovan Jovičić je zadužio i gitarističku pedagogiju kao autor kapitalnog udžbenika za učenje ovog instrumenta od osnovnog, elementarnog nivoa do nivoa studija na akademiji: „Škole za gitaru“ u pet knjiga. Onje takođe autor i drugih pedagoških izdanja: zbirki etida, jedne Početnice za gitaru, pregleda akorda za gitaru, a vrlo značajne su i njegove televizijske škole za gitaru koje je snimao sedamdesetih i osamdesetih godina za TV Beograd.
U vreme kada je Jovan Jovičić počeo da nastupa, gitara je u našoj sredini bila potcenjen i zapostavljen instrument, za koji se smatralo da mu nije mesto na koncertnom podijumu. Međutim, Jovičićev ozbiljan izvođački pristup i njegovi zapaženi koncerti privukli su pažnju muzičke javnosti i obezbedili punu afirmacijuovom instrumentu. Jovičić je razvio i opsežnu pedagošku delatnost – najpre organizujući kurseve za gitariste i pedagoge i pišući udžbenike, a potom i inicirajući uvođenje nastave gitare u muzičke škole i muzičke akadmije. Stoga je on izuzetno zaslužan kao utemeljivač gitarističke umetnosti, pre svega u Srbiji, ali njegovo delovanje presudno je uticalo i na razvoj gitarističke umetnosti u celoj nekadašnjoj Jugoslaviji.
Zahvaljujući dr Jovanu Jovičiću klasična gitara je u Srbiji i u celoj nekadašnjoj Jugoslaviji u drugoj polovini dvadesetog veka doživela izuzetan napredak i neslućeni procvat, a na temelju Jovičićevog solističkog, kompozitorskog i pedagoškog delovanja ostvaren je izuzetan napredak naše gitarističke umetnosti u tolikoj meri da su Beograd i Novi Sad danas postali gitaristički centri evropskog renomea.
Dr Jovan Jovičić bio je počasni predsednik Asocijacije Gitarista Vojvodine a međunarodno takmičenje gitarista na Vojvodina Guitar Fest-u nosi njegovo ime. Kao svojevrstan omaž ovom velikanu Asocijacija Gitarista Vojvodine izdala je monografiju o dr Jovanu Jovičiću „Horizonti zvuka“, autora Borislava Hložana.
Dr. Jovan Jovičić (1926 – 2013) is one of the most prominent Serbian music artists of the twentieth century. With dedicated and fruitful work in the field of foundation and development of classical guitar art in Serbia as well as in all of Yugoslavia at that time, Jovičić achieved a great international career, performing in the most prestigious concert halls around the world, his work in the field of music pedagogy is very important. Jovan Jovičić, a professor, also achieved a successful university career, as a professor of physics at the Belgrade University.
This eminent musician is just one of the many of great Serbian musicians who, in the fifties of the last century, made an extraordinary contributions to the advancements of musical life in Serbia and the former SFRY. Acting simultaneously with pianist Dušan Trbojević, opera soloist Miroslav Čangalović, pianist and harpsichordist Olivera Đurđević, conductor Dušan Skovran, and other great musicians of this generation, Jovan Jovičić has made an outstanding contribution to raising the overall level of our musical creativity. Firstly he introduced to the Serbian and Yugoslav music public the classical guitar music, and then with his performings and pedagogical work brought this instrument to full affirmation, with his triumphal concerts and tours deservedly won the reputation of one of the best world virtuosos on the classical guitar of his generation.
Jovičić’s work on affirmation and popularization of the classical guitar is invaluable, starting to learn this instrument as a self-taught artist, has proved to be at an exceptional performing level, so that at the end of the fourth decade of the last century he began recording and performing in solo concerts. He wins a prestigious competitions – at the International Competition of Music Youth in Belgrade and in Medjugorje’s guitar competition in Moscow, they opened a door to his great international affirmation. His training with the greatest guitarist of the twentieth century, Andres Segovia at the Chigiana Academy in Italy, was also of great significance, where our guitarist perfected his skills for four years.
Beyond the concerts around the world, throughout Europe, in the former USSR, USA, Cuba, to the countries of Asia and the Far East, John Jovičić tirelessly concerted in the homeland, equally paying attention to performances in the most prestigious halls, as well as performances in small towns, schools and rural centres of culture, attracting a new audience and expanding the circle of music fans for classical guitar. Jovičić also recorded a large number of record-breaking records in Yugoslavia, the USSR, the United States and Spain, and he recorded a large number of recordings for radio stations and TV studios both in the country and abroad. With concert performance, Jovičić was also a prolific composer, who was primarily dedicated to guitar music – he wrote a large number of compositions, from virtuosic compositions, solo pieces, etudes to suites and rhapsodies on folklore themes. These compositions were recorded, produced and printed in the country as well as abroad – in the Netherlands, Russia, Ukraine. Jovičić also wrote music for numerous theater performances, radio dramas and films, and these compositions brought him more important international recognitions – music for the radio drama „Birds“ won the „Pri Italy“ Prize.
Jovan Jovičić also is the author of a capital textbook for learning this instrument from elementary level to the level of studies at the Academy: „School of Guitar“ in five books. He is also the author and other pedagogical editions: etude collections, a Guitar Beginner, reviewing the guitar chords, and his television schools for the guitar that he recorded for TV Belgrade in the 70’s and 80’s were very significant.
At the time when Jovan Jovičić started performing, the guitar was underrated instrument in this region, and was considered not to have a place on the concert podium. However, Jovičić’s serious performing approach and his remarkable concerts attracted attention of the music public and provided a full affirmation instrument. Jovičić also developed extensive pedagogical activity – first organizing courses for guitarists and pedagogues and writing textbooks, and then initiating the introduction of guitar lessons into music schools and music academies. Therefore, he is extremely highly credited as the founder of guitar art, first of all in Serbia, but his performance has decisively influenced the development of guitar art in the entire former Yugoslavia.
Thanks to Dr. Jovan Jovičić, the classical guitar in Serbia and throughout the former Yugoslavia in the second half of the twentieth century, experienced remarkable progress and unprecedented bloom, and on the basis of Jovičić’s soloist, composing and pedagogical work, the great progress of our guitar art was achieved to such an extent that Belgrade and Novi Sad now days have become the guitar centers of the European renome.
Dr Jovan Jovičić was Honorary President of the Guitarist Association of Vojvodina and the international guitarists competition at the Vojvodina Guitar Fest carries his name. As a sort of homage to this giant, the Guitarists Association of Vojvodina has published a bibliography of dr. Jovan Jovičić „Horizons of Sound“ by author Borislav Hložan.
